Research & Development

Explore the dynamic world of our R&D initiatives, where MoCap technology is applied across various fields such as research, education, martial arts, sports, ergonomics, rehabilitation, and biomechanics.

Our projects go beyond just technology; the overarching goal is to make a tangible impact on skill development, enrich learning experiences, deepen understanding of movement, promote health, and foster an appreciation for various cultures.

Cekak Visual 3D - A Markerless Motion Capture System Designed to Analyze the Performance of Martial Arts

One of our groundbreaking projects is the Cekak Visual 3D (CV3D) motion capture system, a remarkable tool designed for the analysis of Silat martial arts. Uniquely developed locally, CV3D has garnered international acclaim, securing several gold awards in innovation competitions.

Our journey with CV3D began with the release of Version 1 in 2015, marking the onset of our collaboration with Persatuan Seni Silat Cekak Malaysia and UiTM Penang. Currently, as we embark on the upgrade to Version 2, featuring a fresh user interface, additional tools, and integration with webcam and A.I (machine learning) for more precise data capture, these collaborations continue to be instrumental. Together, from the outset, we’ve strived to create a holistic solution that seamlessly blends innovation with tradition for martial arts enthusiasts.

Delving into CV3D’s capabilities, it offers real-time kinematic data on Silat movements, facilitating a comprehensive analysis of defense and offense techniques. Beyond skill enhancement, CV3D plays a pivotal role in injury prevention, creating a safer training environment.

The uniqueness of this system lies in its cost efficiency, markerless installation, user-friendly interface, portability, easy setup, and its ability to provide 3D skeletal coordinates while tracking and recording data. This makes CV3D not only advanced but also accessible and convenient for users.

As we evolve CV3D, our commitment to documenting and sharing our progress is evident in our extensive research publication list. This journey is not just about technology; it’s about unraveling the beauty of Silat from a scientific standpoint. CV3D acts as a bridge, connecting the rich tradition of Silat with the precision of science, enriching our understanding of this martial art form

Furthermore, if anyone is interested, let’s collaborate! We believe in the potential to do more research on martial arts, especially Silat, and expand the project to other applications. Together, we can explore new horizons and contribute to the advancement of both technology and martial arts.

KognAktif - Virtual Training System to Improve Balance & Coordination of Children with Special Needs

Another project from us that exemplifies our commitment to innovation and social impact is KognAktif, a Virtual Training System currently in progress and generously funded by the Cradle Fund as part of our dedicated research and development initiatives. This groundbreaking project focuses on enhancing the balance and coordination skills of children with special needs by specifically targeting their eye-hand coordination through engaging motion-based activities.

Recognizing the crucial role of eye-hand coordination in education, as highlighted by Kovari et al. (2020), KognAktif stands out with its interactive motion-based activities tailored specifically for children with special needs. Our approach goes beyond traditional methods, actively stimulating cognitive development through dynamic exercises while providing a comprehensive assessment system for personalized progress tracking.

In collaboration with UiTM Penang and SK Hashim Awang, Kepala Batas, we aim to bring together expertise and local insights to ensure the success and effectiveness of KognAktif in meeting the unique needs of our community. This partnership highlights our dedication to fostering collaborative efforts that contribute to the betterment of education and well-being for children with special needs.

The success of our endeavor is supported by prior experiments conducted by Hussain et al. (2018), demonstrating significant improvement in the education of children with special needs through repeated engagement in motion-capture-based activities.

The potential for further research and collaboration is vast, as we integrate current technology to assist students with special needs, enhancing their balance and coordination for improved education and life management. We welcome anyone interested in contributing to this transformative journey. Be part of this transformative initiative, join us on the journey to empower these incredible kids, and together, let’s make a lasting impact on the lives of children with special needs through KognAktif.
